Swamp Sessions http://www.swampsessions.com/ Swamp Sessions is presented by Awendaw Green and designed with great care to bring educational and connective opportunities to songwriters and musicians in a pristine, natural setting on solar power. We wish to preserve and cultivate musicianship, sustainable energy, and the natural lands in our lovely state. Swamp Sessions Songwriting Retreat and Workshop offers songwriters and musicians a place to create, in a remote, natural setting. At this retreat, artists can record their songs, share their works at the campfire jams, walk the songwriting challenge trail, and work one-on-one with our music staff. Some artists enjoy all of the above, and having alone time to create in a cool spot to work on their own. It’s a safe place to take creative risks. The retreat is a three day weekend at the solar powered Swamp House in the Francis Marion Forest. The house and 100 acre property are owned by Dr. Eddie White, founder and proprietor of the weekly concert series The Barn Jam at Awendaw Green, in beautiful Awendaw, SC. The Barn Jam is a coveted gig for local, regional, and national touring musicians. New and experienced artists come together, and magic is made. Songwriters and musicians who have been to Swamp Sessions call upon this experience over time because it continues to serve them in life, creativity, and career. “We all learn from playing and listening to our songs, talking about how they were created, and jamming with each other. This leads to the writing of new songs- more songs,” Danielle Howle Swamp Sessions curator. Within this natural setting, artists find a sense of freedom and a new relationship to their music and nature. They can refine their skills, and have a breath to become centered, more connected to their work, and build community. Here is a link to the virtual Songwriting trail, with writing challenges at each station along the way. Click here to see what the land looks like. Take the course if you wish, or just let this meditative experience into your world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sw-zgnUm6s The trail has brought many songwriters back to Swamp House with freshly written songs ready to record, just hours after they were created. Often, staff artists, or other participants, will accompany the songwriters when they are recording. Some artists like recording solo. Swamp Sessions is a stress free zone for artists to explore their work. This freedom evokes confidence, which brings about amazing recordings. This year, Swamp Sessions partnered with Soul Shine Studios and engineer Jasan Benton. “People who have never met record and play together. It’s amazing. Some folks have never recorded a song in their lives, while others have done it professionally for much of their lives. The mixing of this energy produces great music and inspires all artists to keep seeking,” Danielle Howle Swamp Sessions curator. We thank you for your interest and wish you many magical music returns.
